Good-Bye, Nick!

Over the past semester, we've had the privilege of having a student from Endicott College (our president and office manager's alma mater). Nick had the charge of fortifying our mentor program with an organized resource for our incoming mentors and interns. He presented his final work today and blew us away with the amount of time and excellence he put into the resource.

Nick has been a great asset to our team in the short time he's been here and the students he has mentored appreciated their new "friend" and the time he put into their lives.

Thank you, Nick! We hope this isn't the last we've seen of you at Blueskies Wellness!

Recap: Presenting and Exhibiting at Youth at Risk Conference 2013 (6.5.13)

Blueskies Wellness was honored to be a part of the 13th annual Youth At Risk conference held on Wednesday 6/5 at Endicott College.  In addition to being a featured exhibitor, we hosted our own breakout session, "Bystander: Know Your Power”, presented by BSW founder Belen Godwin, LCSW/PhDC. We covered the research behind the Bystander Effect phenomenon, as well as 5 practical ways individuals can “step up, not out!” (pictured below). We reminded attendees that bullying stops in less than 10 seconds, 57% of the time, when someone intervenes on behalf of the victim.

Created by the Essex County Community Foundation, YAR brought together over 40   nonprofit organizations and industry vendors that provide unique services and resources to those who serve and care for youth.  Nearly 700 attendees included those who work with and care for youth in a variety of settings (family, community, school, religious, healthcare, human services, recreational, and legal.) Keynote speaker Michael Thompson, PhD spoke about the challenges boys now face with the current school system, and showed how some teachers are and principals are learning to better balance academics and hands-on learning.
It truly was an honor to be invited to participate in this fantastic collaboration and share the unique opportunity to network with our peers and partner  with those who serve our most vulnerable youth.

Recap: Blueskies 2013 Spring Wine Tasting Fundraiser 5.9.13

We were thrilled to see so many of you come out to Salvatore's Restaurant (Lawrence)  last week  and support our 2013 Spring Fundraiser! The evening included live music, delicious Italian cuisine, an "Around the World" tasting of 7 wines, and exciting raffles which raised additional support for our bullying prevention and mental health counseling efforts.

After opening remarks from BSW's president and founder, Belen Godwin, we kicked off the evening with a special wine tasting. Led by Maia Gosselin, founder of Sip Wine Education, we were introduced to an assortment of red and white wine from around the globe. We all recieved helpful handouts to keep track of what we learned and what we liked, and we had opportunity to ask questions and get recommendations.

Looking around the room, it was clear that guests enjoyed networking with one another and participating in the tasting and raffle. Raffle winners took home various baskets including beer (Samuel Adams and Harpoon), wine (featured in the tasting!), restaurant and gas cards, JR Hair Studio, and the New England Aquarium!

We were delighted to have Eastern Bank as our Silver Sponsor. They are doing amazing things to support their local communities through their own Charitable Foundation, and we were grateful to gain their support for this special evening!

Have a look at some of the evening's snapshots...and thank you to all who came out to support Blueskies!
