It is the age of information. Unfortunately, not all information is pleasant. Bullying is not a new topic. It has been present for as long as we've been on this earth. What has changed is the execution of bullying quickly leading to an intensity that threatens our youth. It is too often that we can find headlines like these in the news:
ABC News, 1/ 26/10 “Teen Taunted by Cyberbullies Hangs Herself”.
Boston Globe, 4/3/10 “Two deaths too many”-An 11 year old killed himself after relentless bullying at his charter school.
Boston Globe, 11/26/11 "Stonehill cuts camp ties after hazing report" - Andover High School basketball camp at Stonehill College is discontinued after reports of extreme underclassmen hazing.
It is estimated in America that "every 7 minutes a child is being bullied while in school." Daniel Olweus
Needless to say, there is a lot of work to be done to change our perspectives on bullying and work to repair damage done and prevent bullying from escalating to the dangerous levels it has come to.
Eliminating bullying requires a multilevel approach which includes education of the individual, family, community, institutions, society, and government. Blueskies Wellness, Inc., is committed to working with all these levels, one case at a time.
